How much innovation can 1 billion dollars buy?

Apple´s Advanced Manufacturing Fund will be investing 1 billion dollars in new technology over the coming few years. The first 200 million dollars will go to Corning (see picture), the maker of Gorilla glass used in iPhones and iPads. According to analysts, Corning will be using the money to improve Gorilla glass and to add new features. They are said to be working on adding Augmented Reality and wireless charging features to the glass.
What will happen to the rest of the billion dollars will become clearer in the near future, when it will also become clear how much innovation you can buy for that gigantic amount.
