UPM cuts paper production
Finish paper manufacturer UPM is cutting its production capacity. This will mean a cut of 223 jobs (out of 1,600) as well in UPM Nordland Paper and UPM Norservice in Dörpen (Germany). According to the company this is because of investments in production automation. The reason is the worldwide market and strong competition in the paper market. UPM Nordland Paper produces coated and non-coated paper (WFC, WFU).
UPM also stops the production of magazine paper on the paper machine (PM5) at UPM Blandin in Minnesota. This will cost 150 jobs (out of 400). About 128,000 tons of paper for magazines was produced here. According to UPM there is over capacity on the North American market.
