PageWide, the future of inkjet
Last week in Barcelona HP introduced a disrupting technology that could be the future of inkjet printing. The idea seems simple enough: print heads that can be fitted together – quite like Lego blocks – to create practically any print width. But that, says François Martin, the man responsible for marketing HP printsystem world, is easier said than done. All print heads must not only be perfect and perfectly identical, but also self-calibrating and self-cleaning. And they must be affordable, of course. The same holds true for the ink; HP has opted for water based pigment ink. PageWide is not ready for production printers yet. We have to wait until HP has finished developing the astonishing technology it has been working on for the past ten years, some time next year. But, judging by the quality and speed of the beta model, it will be worth the wait.
