Albert Heijn introduces productscanner with augmented reality
Albert Heijn (biggest supermarket chain in the Netherlands) has introduced the AH Productscanner. An app which uses augmented reality to give customers information about ingredients, nutrition, allergens, recipes and provenance of the AH branded products.
The AH Productscanner uses augmented reality to achieve this. After scanning the front of a product with a smartphone the customer sees all the information. The app also gives inspiration for a recipe using their Allerhande magazine recipes.
According to Marit van Egmond, manager merchandising & sourcing at Albert Heijn, customers are increasingly aware of the importance of ingredients and the provenance. “We have all this information, but it is often too much to put on the labels or on our site. Using new technology allows us to share this information during shopping. We will start with 35 products and continue to add.”
The AH Productscanner app is available for iOS and Android. The packaging will have a sticker to show if the information is available. The number of products will increase to include all AH branded products.
