Animal byproduct in polymer banknote
Banknote printer De La Rue is researching an alternative for the source material currently used for printing polymer banknotes. The current polymer 5 Pound note contains traces of tallow, an animal byproduct. And that was not well received by vegetarians and vegans in the UK who set up an online petition which was signed by 137,000 people. The original polymer 5 Pound notes were introduced in September. The Brits are increasingly replacing paper money for synthetic banknotes.
