Apple buys augmented reality company
Apple has taken over a German company specialised in augmented reality. This was announced on IT news site TechCrunch.
Metaio was founded in 2003 and its AR software has been used for apps for Ikea amongst others. Augmented reality is made by adding a digital layer of information over live camera images. For example, if you point your phone at a certain statue it is possible to view information about this work of art.
Apple´s plans with this company have not been announced, nor has Apple shown any interest in this area in the past.
