Persbericht:

In its first major show since it was acquired by Flint Group, Xeikon has a number of headliners prepared for drupa 2016, Messe Düsseldorf, May 31 to June 10 to be presented in Hall 8a.  These include its brand-new Trillium One press based on the technology demonstration of Trillium at drupa 2012 and Fusion, the next big thing in packaging and labels.

Flint Group will have a presence in: Hall 3 where it will talk to visitors about its wide range of consumables; Hall 8a where an information hub will highlight the group synergies and Hall 8b with BasysPrint and Thermoflexx where together they will continue the conversation on the commonalities in prepress.

“Our drupa theme is Direct. Dedicated. Digital.” says Danny Mertens, Xeikon Corporate Communications Manager, “and visitors to our stand will see that in action, with innovations across the board. This includes workflow efficiencies with our digital front end, the print engines themselves, our unique consumables and our next-generation approach to finishing. Our stand at drupa will have something for everyone in the printing industry, and visitors are guaranteed to go away with new ideas about how they can expand their capabilities to drive profitability.”

Trillium One: The missing link

Since the announcement of its breakthrough Trillium liquid toner technology at drupa 2012, Xeikon has been working to commercialize the first digital press using Trillium technology and will present the brand-new Trillium One four-color press at drupa 2016. Capable of running at 60 meters (200 feet) per minute at 1200 dpi, with a print width of 500 mm (19.7 inches), it combines cost-effectiveness, high quality and speed for the ultimate in digital printing performance. Trillium One is the missing link in the industry for high volume direct marketing materials and publishing such as catalogs. Many of these applications will also be demonstrated during the show.

Mertens comments, “Trillium One adds a new dimension to the world of digital printing that has not previously existed in the marketplace. It has the ability to take digital printing to a new level in terms of price/performance metrics – all features that make the Trillium unique. Also its high resolution imaging heads and toner particle size of less than 2 microns create a winning combination.”

Drupa visitors wishing to more deeply explore Trillium technology, can enjoy a Trillium Virtual Reality Experience and take a peek inside the press to better understand its unique characteristics. “This is a very cool way for people to get a good look inside the workings of the press,” Mertens adds, “and really gain a good understanding of its unique contribution to the industry.” A Trillium theatre on the booth will also stage five live daily demos.

A Liquid Tonnik

Xeikon will also present its unrivalled toner capabilities as part of production areas focused on labels, folding cartons and document & commercial printing. This includes its own-developed Tonnik, a liquid toner developed for Trillium One, that combines all the advantages of dry toner in a liquid format.Tonnik has a lot of potential for future developments, it will become the most sustainable, environmentally friendly and economical colorant for the digital printing industry.

Inline Finishing for Labels

For labels, the Xeikon CX3, which has seen more than 20 systems installed since its September 2015 launch, will be producing a broad array of applications with inline finishing. Its top speed of 30 m/min (98 ft/min) ensures it is the most productive five-color digital label press in its class.

The five-color Xeikon 3500, the flagship of the Xeikon 3000 series, will show folding carton applications. By using CMYK + Orange toners as an example, packaging converters can extend their color gamut to be able to achieve more than 72% of Pantone colors. It has a variable  width of 250mm (9.8”) up to 516mm (20.3”), runs at a top speed of >1600 B2 sheets/hour and even produces B2+ format . The production line will include a Web Varnishing Module (WVM) inline for spot and flood coating with UV and aqueous varnishes, a waste separator and a stacker with a capacity of up to 450mm. This delivers a fully functional end-to-end configuration for folding carton printing.

Xeikon FDU completes the Folding Carton Suite

Xeikon will also be showing its own developed digital die-cutting unit for folding carton applications. This nearline flatbed unit was developed to enable customers to better complete in short run carton conversion with streamlined and responsive production.

“The addition of the Folding Die-Cut Unit (FDU) demonstrates Xeikon’s commitment to providing complete solutions,” adds Mertens. “Working with our customers, we have seen that there is need for a solution to help speed up production. This unit is ideal for short run, fast turnaround work and helps to eliminate production bottle-necks.”

Growth opportunities in the Document market

Xeikon’s technology is steeped in innovation for the document market; and at drupa, the Xeikon 9800 will represent the latest developments. It can print on a wide range of untreated substrates ranging from 40gsm to 300gsm at a resolution of 1200×3600 with variable dot density for unmatched quality. Combined with the variable data capabilities of the Xeikon X-800 front-end, this press is perfectly suited for high-end direct marketing work. It will be shown in a roll-to-roll configuration to demonstrate economies and scale of production, with finishing by Xeikon Aura partner Hunkeler.

Fusion Technology the next big thing in labels & packaging production

With Fusion Technology, Xeikon comes very close to a fully automated, unattended label and packaging production. It combines full-color production printing with digital embellishment of labels and packaging in a single-pass, fully digital production process. It is comprised of a series of embellishment modules that will be released over time as components of an entirely new modular system with the digital front-end taking care of prepress, data processing, color management and press operation as well as full control and operation of all embellishment modules without any manual intervention. Potential modules include hot / cold foiling; screen prints; matte, gloss and structured flood and spot varnish; and digital Braille.

Leveraging the cloud for better color management with XeikonColorControl

This cloud-based service lets printers ensure repeatable, predictable colors and the best simulation of custom spot colors. It generates high quality ICC-profiles with special prefixed settings that are optimized for labels and packaging applications, document printing and book printing. Calculations are performed on the web server and communicated to prepress or production within minutes.

Brand Protection

In response to customer requests for security features, anti-counterfeiting and brand protection features, particularly for applications such as tax stamps and vouchers, Xeikon has incorporated a growing range of digital security printing features into its hardware and software. These include taggant marked spot color toner. Taggants are microscopic chemical markers that can be added to the substrate or the toner itself, to allow various forms of verification. They are already used for high security documents such as banknotes, identification documents and other valuable paper-based products.

Speak to our experts

Xeikon’s Services offering will be well represented at the booth, too, with Xeikon experts on hand to share advice on quality, productivity and technology. Xeikon services range from installation, setup and support to a range of Premium Services that includes training and education, color services and business development training and advice.

Xeikon will be promoting the power of its long-established Aura partner program that brings all Xeikon partners together under a central umbrella. Customers benefit from a transparent overview of all tested and approved total solutions enabled through Xeikon’s extensive set of industry partners and rigorous certification process.

Mertens adds, “Aura gets stronger all the time and underscores the fact that we place great importance on helping our customers develop the most effective and efficient workflow process for their operational needs, whether components are manufactured by Xeikon or trusted partners. By partnering with the industry’s best, we can bring to market solutions that will benefit our customers, giving them the most efficient and effective workflow possible.”

He concludes, “We are excited to be bringing so many of our market-leading technologies to drupa 2016 with our new owners Flint Group. We are even more excited to meet existing and future Xeikon customers at this important industry event. Our expanded presence at drupa reinforces our dedication to showcasing how Xeikon customers can benefit from end-to-end productivity and increased profitability.”

CHILI publish_pr16003_CHILI publisher 5.0_Print enrichmentsChili Publish blijft groeien.

Persbericht:

At drupa 2016, CHILI publish will demonstrate how its innovation and market development efforts have resulted in two significant advances for the company: CHILI publisher 5.0 and revolutionary PDF rendering solution called CHILI rendro. On top of showcasing the latest technology, CHILI publish will also share new details on expanded partnerships and provide real-world stories of how their solutions have enabled customer success. CHILI publish is on stand F40 in hall 7a at drupa 2016 from May 31 till June 10 at the Messe Düsseldorf.

Kevin Goeminne, CHILI publish CEO, says “When we came to drupa in 2012, we were a young, entrepreneurial company with an innovative solution that we believed would be revolutionary. Since then, we have grown in every way possible. We developed the next generation of our technology, established a worldwide presence, formed partnerships with a global list of industry partners, cultivated a loyal customer base, and demonstrated that our offering truly does revolutionize publishing with advanced online editing capabilities and so much more. While we enter drupa 2016 as a larger, more successful organization, we still hold the same commitment to innovation and growth as we did in 2012. We are proud of all that we have accomplished and helped our customers to accomplish, and we look forward to sharing our next generation solutions with visitors to our stand at drupa 2016.”

Brand-new at drupa

CHILI publish is a company that was founded on innovation. Its ongoing investment in research and development – combined with in-depth market knowledge – has resulted in the creation of the cutting edge solutions that will be on display at drupa, where the company will debut CHILI rendro.

This breakthrough release fundamentally improves how PDFs are rendered, giving users the most meticulous rendering, streaming and 3D viewing of PDF’s onto any platform that supports the HTML5 canvas. When files require urgent approval, consultation or editing, CHILI rendro ensures there are no barriers to fast, accurate communication and collaboration.

The company will also showcase CHILI publisher 5.0, the next generation of its online editor. This release includes a range of new features, including a new user interface that aligns with the way users are editing documents today. CHILI publisher 5.0 also includes support for Asian languages, reflecting the company’s expansion into the Asian marketplace.

Industry partnerships

Goeminne continues, “Industry partnerships are important to us. The robust APIs that are part of CHILI publisher, along with our ongoing investment in product development and market expansion, attract partnerships with best-in-breed technical companies who wish to integrate our solutions into their offering. These integrations extend the value of CHILI publish technology and enable us to better address customer challenges.”

Since its inception, CHILI publish has fostered productive working relationships with leading providers who offer a wide range of technical solutions. The list of solutions includes: MIS (Tharsten, Cerm, Gamsys), e-Commerce platforms (Magento, Woo commerce, Nop commerce, Intershop, Shopify), Asset Management (North Plains, Canto Cumulus, Adam software), Cross-Media and Web-to-Print solutions (XMPie, Dalim, Pageflex), packaging (Esko), workflow automation (Enfocus) and digital printing solutions (Xeikon).
Bjorn Willems, Director of Product Management at Enfocus notes, “Thanks to the development efforts of our partner CHILI publish, we can give our users the quality/performance they want in the PDF review process. We are grateful for the innovation efforts of CHILI publish.”

In addition to these technical partnerships, the company has also expanded its reseller network. Resellers in 20 countries in regions around the world now distribute CHILI publisher. In addition, the company has recently established a network of resellers serving the Asian region.

“The market has adopted online editing as key element of making brands and marketing campaigns successful,” Goeminne states. “As a result, an increasing number of industry leaders are joining with CHILI publish to meet the evolving needs of our mutual customers. These mutually beneficial partnerships – and the expansion of our reseller network – have contributed greatly to our growth over the last four years.”

Engaging Customers for Mutual Success

Since 2012, CHILI publish has grown its customer base to include marketing service providers, magazine publishers, brand owners, printers and packaging converters from around the world. These customers rely on CHILI publisher to protect their brands, improve their marketing efforts, and enhance their operations.

Marketing service provider Fineline is an example of the type of customer that has come to rely on solutions from CHILI publish. Owner Richard Miller says, “Many of the companies we are speaking with are serving multiple locations, franchises or departments, and they often are not working from the same marketing or business script across these various entities, which can result in brand dilution or operational inefficiencies. CHILI publisher has helped us to solve that big challenge by bringing business, marketing and print operations together under one customized, easy-to-use platform that benefits the users, the company, and the brand.”

At drupa, CHILI publish will be kicking off a “Spicy Stars” campaign that highlights stories of customers who have used CHILI publisher to grow their operations.

A Global Operation

CHILI publish has added new offices to support its expanding global footprint and growing partner network. The company now employs 20 people at its corporate headquarters in Belgium. The U.S. office of CHILI Publish is operated out of New York City. This office supports sales and service in the U.S. market. The company recently expanded into the Asian market, opening an office in Singapore to better serve that growing market and opportunity.

Goeminne concludes, “All of us at CHILI publish are proud of what we have accomplished, and we look forward to sharing this news – and much more – at drupa. But the growth of CHILI publish won’t stop at the Messe Düsseldorf. We’ll continue to use our spirit of innovation, software and application expertise and devotion to customer success to develop robust publishing solutions that stay one step ahead of the demands of the market. Keep your eye on CHILI publish!”

Persbericht:

Asahi Photoproducts, a pioneer in flexographic photopolymer plate development, is pleased to announce that it will be bringing a full range of flexographic printing plate solutions to drupa 2016, scheduled for 31 May through 10 June in Düsseldorf. Asahi will be located in Hall 11, Stand A60, at the show. Asahi Photoproducts is known for its unique Pinning Technology for Clean Transfer, enabling kiss touch printing that delivers improved ink transfer, reduces ink filling at the mid-tone area thus reducing dot gain, and results in fewer cleaning intervals for improved overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
“We are looking forward to sharing our innovative flexo plate solutions with drupa visitors,” says David Galton, Sales director of Asahi Photoproducts Europe. “We will be showing our full portfolio of flexo plate solutions as well as some exciting new products, so we encourage everyone interested in flexography to stop by and see us. We will also have plenty of real-life award-winning examples that demonstrate the quality our plate solutions can bring to flexo print. All of this adds up to ensured viability of flexo technology over the long term plus more production efficiencies for flexographic operations.”
Proven Pinning Technology for Clean Transfer
Asahi offers a full range of flexographic plates featuring Pinning Technology for Clean Transfer. This unique Asahi plate technology is specifically engineered to transfer all remaining ink to the print substrate due to the photopolymer plates having a lower surface energy than other plates on the market. Not only does this deliver stunning graphical quality, but it also improves overall production efficiencies due to reduced makeready waste and fewer press wash-ups. Asahi’s plate line includes:
• AWP™-DEF water-washable plates, producing superior results compared to traditional technologies and even outperforming the latest generation of digital flexographic printing plates. The AWP™-DEF plate delivers a level of graphic reproduction with more complete ink transfer and a wider tonal range. With its solvent-free platemaking process, there is no need for high temperature processes and the result is a perfect, dimensionally stable plate that ensures high quality print registration without colour shift.
• AFP™–TOP, a premium digital flexo plate designed primarily for wide-web film printing applications giving the printer a broader colour gamut with soft tonal shades fading out to zero. With superb press stability characteristics, it is able to consistently reproduce and print small dots and is able to print vignettes that run to zero. It delivers an average cost savings of 18% due to improved overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) as compared to standard digital flexo plates, resulting in savings of several hundred thousand euros per year.
• AFP™ – TSP for paper printing applications. These medium-hard plates are tailor-made for paper and higher quality corrugated board applications with water-based inks. TSP plates are compatible with water, solvent and most UV-curable inks, enabling all converters to benefit from Pinning Technology for Clean Transfer. These plates also facilitate homogeneous ink transfer in solid and line work, and better control of ink trapping when different colour inks are printed on top of each other.

New at drupa
“We are not resting on our laurels at Asahi,” Galton adds. “We’ll be bringing both new products and new concepts with us to drupa.” These include:

• A new AFP™-DCV digital flexo plate, designed to produce Deep Colour Vibrance prints for water- and solvent-based inks in flexible packaging applications. Deep Colour Vibrance is delivered by using a unique polymer solution, giving the best balance between highlight dots and deep vibrant colours within one plate. Deep Colour Vibrance plates represent the first plate solution in the market that combines vibrant colour printing with the Pinning Technology for Clean Transfer OEE features.
• A new AWP™-DEW plate solution, incorporating the renowned quality properties of AWP™ DEF plates with the addition of a faster plate processing speed, making this plate ideal for larger format flexible packaging operations with higher plate throughput. It has the same consistent plate dimensional stability vital for fixed colour palette printing, delivering significant quality and OEE benefits.

In addition to the new products on Asahi’s booth, the company would also like to invite its customers to see future concepts for flexographic sleeve solutions. Asahi’s plate on sleeve concept is targeted to deliver excellent register characteristics, which makes it the perfect vehicle for fixed colour palette.
Overall, drupa 2016 is stacking up to be an exciting, vibrant show; and we believe visitors to our stand will see that first-hand from Asahi,” concludes Galton. “We look forward to welcoming visitors, learning more about their businesses, and helping them find ways to improve quality, productivity and profitability in their flexographic operations.”

Persbericht:

At drupa, Cerm will demonstrate that their solution is more than MIS and drives the complete automation for narrow web printing. During the event Cerm will show its community engagement through partnerships with exhibiting industry leaders like Chili Publish, ESKO, Heidelberg – Gallus, HP, Xeikon and many others…
“During the pre-drupa press conference in Bruges on March 16, Cerm is performing an impressive live demonstration by capturing, processing and digitally printing all images of attending journalists on a personalized label. The picture is taken upon arrival on March 16 of each journalist, then personalized on Chili Publish, processed on the Esko Automation Engine and finally printed on the Xeikon presses. All journalists pick up their personalized set of printed labels the next day at the Xeikon premises. All of this is driven by the powerful Cerm MIS engine.” explains Peter Heyse, responsible of the product development at Cerm.
Peter Dhondt, Head Business Development and Sales at Cerm, explains “We have a mission at Cerm which says ‘Deliver as promised.’ For over 30 years, Cerm has been doing just that: developing and delivering comprehensive solutions for the label community around the world. Our strong industry expertise and commitment to our customers continues to drive our innovation, ensuring we can meet the demands of the market today and in the future.”
At drupa, Cerm will release an important new versions of its digital shopfront Web4Labels. Based upon the remarks of the W4L user group, Cerm decided to entirely re-engineer the existing tool from scratch. Responsive Web Design will enable the use of
any device: mobile phone, tablet, portable or desktop computers. Flexible information grids will give the printer the possibility to customize the information for every individual customer. These features will lower the threshold for customers to participate in the printers’ workflow via the Web.
End-to-End workflow solutions at Drupa
From Web-ordering up to Delivery in one simple mouse click. That’s what the label printing industry is aiming for. And Cerm already showed this workflow on many occasions, thanks to the collaboration with partners from prepress to finishing.
Driving prepress
Back in 2003, Esko and Cerm pioneered the first draft proposals of the JDF-based MIS-to- Prepress interface. Meanwhile this interface received global recognition, including a CIP4 award in 2009 and 2012. With today more than 50 operational customers, Cerm is the undisputed record holder of MIS-to-Esko connections. Both market leaders maintain intensive collaboration between their development teams, most recently resulting in a dedicated integrated workflow at a flexible packaging converter.
Similar interfaces for both a one-up workflow and Step-and-Repeat functionalities are meanwhile available with Heidelberg Prinect (driving the Gallus LabelFire 340 press), with Hybrid Software and with the Screen Equios workflow.
The upload of product-artwork by the brand owner in Web4Labels is enriched with an integration with Chili Publisher. Customers can introduce variable elements in their products very easily now, without time-consuming approval workflows, based upon Chili templates.
Ink-recipe-references and a calculation of the necessary amount of ink for all colours of a production job can be sent to GSE Ink dispensing systems.
Driving print
The impressive rise of digital print for labels pushed both MIS and prepress software. Even to the extent that Step-and-Repeat functionalities are now available in many of Digital Front Ends: Gallus LabelFire, HP Indigo, Xeikon X800, Screen.
Including Xeikon presses into the JDF workflow lead to the 2nd CIP4 award last drupa, in 2012. But also flexo presses can benefit from an MIS interface. The Cerm Gallus press-link can drastically reduce the setup time of the press and will feed back information to the MIS.

More than MIS…
the operators drive optimization and automation. This goes well beyond just MIS and enables the management of print shops.
The 3 communication centers :
shopfront : for external communication
Web4Labels is an all-in-one digital shopfront for online quoting and managing of assets, providing a critical online resource that lets sales people and end- customers order labels and get quotes remotely.
shopfloor
insight into their operations, including capacity per machine and how to optimize their machines to reduce change-over times. Stock, inventory and raw material data, as well as the details for shipping are just one click away.
backoffice
Cerm backoffice includes specific solutions to relieve the practical problems that come from printing a larger number of different products with smaller print runs. Produced quantities and shipping information is taken from the shopfloor to generate shipping notes and invoices.
The printer can start with the functionalities that meet his needs today, then add more as the business grows.
About Cerm
Founded in 1983, Cerm offers a modular, process-efficient solution designed to meet the specific needs of narrow web printers around the world. Cerm is an independent vendor, partnering with industry leaders to form a complete end-to-end business solution for its customers. Headquartered in Belgium, Cerm has an installed base in Europe, Australia and North America, with local support. Cerm is part of the Heidelberg group.

Enfocus lanceert eigen appstore

16 mrt 2016
Categorie:

Persbericht:

Last month, Enfocus announced the availability of the Enfocus Appstore, a co-creation platform where users and developers of Enfocus Switch could share their knowledge and work. Today, after only a month of operation, the Enfocus Appstore has quickly become the go-to resource for this community. New apps are being added to the store daily and Switch users from around the world are downloading them to solve business problems. Less than one month after the release of the Enfocus Appstore, the first apps have already been sold. At drupa 2016, Enfocus will be demonstrating the range of flows that can be created using apps from this community-created resource (Hall 08b, A23).

The Switch Community is comprised of Switch specialists – including users, integrators and Channel Partners – from around the globe. At the Enfocus Appstore, users can access applications that were developed by this vital community. Users can view information for each available app, including details about the app, compatibility and version information, the name of the creator, screenshots and a link to the support offered by the creator. If a user is interested in an app, he or she can download it and try it free for one month. If he or she likes the application, it can be purchased on a subscription basis.

Bjorn Willems, Director of Product Management at Enfocus says, “Users of Enfocus Switch now have a valuable resource where they can exchange ideas and technology to improve their businesses – and they have themselves to thank for it. We always knew this was a powerful, connected group of users and the pace of activity at the Enfocus Appstore clearly demonstrates that point. By drupa, the Enfocus Appstore will host close to 50 apps, each providing a solution to a specific business challenge. All of us at Enfocus are excited to be at drupa and to show the industry what can be created by the power of community.”

Early growth and interaction

Since the introduction of the Enfocus Appstore, dozens of new app creators have been in contact with Enfocus and more apps are being introduced each day.

At the store, there are a range of apps that support different aspects of the flow – from apps that help manage XML files to apps that can look up data in a CSV file. The range of applications that is available and the fast pace at which apps are being added, mean that users are able to find solutions to some of their most specific workflow challenges.

New features that support community

Enfocus plans enhancements to the user experience at the Enfocus Appstore. In the near future, users will be able to leave reviews and ratings for apps they have purchased.

Users will also be presented with a customised landing page that includes selections that are based on the user’s past history at the store. There will also be a classification of the apps offered at the Enfocus Appstore. These features will help guide users through the growing number of applications, and facilitate more interaction among the Enfocus Community.

Ongoing Switch development

In addition to these co-created applications, Enfocus is concentrating their efforts on the architecture of the solution, developing features that improve quality and performance while providing greater flexibility. Features under development include an HTML Switch Client that enables users to access Switch from everywhere without the need for locally installed software.

Enfocus is also working on a Cloud-based solution that gives users more flexibility and security. Using Enfocus Cloud, users can automatically sync Switch Assets (workflows, etc.) to the Cloud. In case of hardware failure, the user simply reinstalls Switch on a new server, logs in with their Enfocus ID, and all workflows will be restored.

Demonstrating solutions for users, by users

At drupa, Enfocus will provide demonstrations of solutions that are based entirely on the apps that have come from the Enfocus Appstore, at Hall 08b, booth A23.

Accessing the Enfocus apps

Enfocus Appstore can be accessed directly from within Switch or by visiting: appstore.enfocus.com.

About Enfocus (www.enfocus.com)

Enfocus provides modular and affordable tools safeguarding job quality and enabling automation throughout the complete production chain. Innovative solutions improve communication between design and production while enhancing productivity and predictability through automation of routine tasks.

Step-by-step deployment dramatically increases added value without forcing users to completely rethink their way of doing business. Well-known brands include PitStop, Switch and Connect.

New X-Rite Service Helps Printers and Converters Better Manage Color Libraries

X-Rite Incorporated, a global leader in color science and technology, and its subsidiary Pantone LLC, today expanded its PantoneLIVE™ cloud-based solution for digitally communicating color with a new service that helps printers and packaging converters manage color libraries. The new PantoneLIVE Rationalization Service analyzes and consolidates a printer’s color library to improve color consistency, increase production efficiencies, and avoid wasteful duplication of color.

Rationalization

Over time, a printer’s color libraries can grow substantially when new colors are added. Without appropriate management or attention to the potential issues of duplication, this can quickly evolve into an unmanageable number of colors, resulting in inefficiencies in ink matching, production planning and increases ink inventory costs.

“Printers and converters can benefit from the PantoneLIVE Rationalization Service by analyzing and consolidating colors that are so close together in the color space that they are effectively the same,” said Chris Halford, Technical Director for PantoneLIVE Services, X-Rite Pantone. “We have worked with a number of converters who have seen a 30 percent to 45 percent reduction in their color libraries. This creates a leaner color palette with fewer colors to manage and a smaller inventory of inks. This saves time, budget and reduces errors. The remaining colors in the digital library can be easily accessed, giving the printer and the brand owner the confidence that their colors are consistent, no matter where the item is produced or what substrate is used.”

Color Mapping

Color Mapping is another service included in the PantoneLIVE Rationalization process. Client colors are mapped to standard Pantone® Matching System (PMS) colors and to PantoneLIVE dependent references. With this mapping, a converter’s entire packaging supply chain can easily make use of both Master and Dependent Libraries within the PantoneLIVE ecosystem.

Sometimes, due to the realities of production materials and processes, the desired Pantone Master Standard color cannot be achieved with the target substrate and printing process. Pantone Dependent Standards are designed to represent desired Master Standards, and are the Pantone approved best match to the Master standards, while taking into account the effect on color outcome of using various different substrates, inks and printing processes. By mapping original colors to Pantone Master and Dependent Libraries in PantoneLIVE, printers and converters can accurately communicate color across the color supply chain, from designer to brand owner to supplier.

To prevent future color redundancy, PantoneLIVE and the new PantoneLIVE Private Cloud include process controls that assess and evaluate a new color standard when it is added to the library. The system alerts the user if the color already exists or if there is a suitable color match in the library before the new color is added. The PantoneLIVE Private Cloud is an X-Rite service offering that enables the secure publication and sharing of a converter’s own color standards via the PantoneLIVE infrastructure.

“The combination of rationalizing and color mapping allows printers to create a palette of known converter-validated and Pantone approved colors,” says Halford. “As a result, printers can take full advantage of the benefits of reducing spot color libraries.”

X-Rite will demonstrate the PantoneLIVE services at drupa 2016, May 31 through June 10 at the Düsseldorf Fairgrounds in Hall 8b A23. Attendees can speak with X-Rite color experts to learn how the mapping and rationalization service can improve efficiencies across the supply chain delivering fast return on investment (ROI) and increasing customer satisfaction.
