Datalase is a UK company which supplies pigments for the ink industry, laser reactive inks. The biggest laser producers in the world use this technology. This technology can be used in combination with other technology as it is essentially an ink-free process.
For example labels are treated with this laser sensitive ink. The laser writes a barcode and address on the pre-treated labels. The ink reacts to the laser and the message is non-erasable. Another advantage is that Datalase is clean, safe and superfast.
The technology is also used in the food industry. It is cost effective because it allows for individually printed packaging against low prices.
The solution enables high-speed printing of more than 1,000 products an hour. This is, of course, a monochrome solution. Which is why Datalase is an excellent addition to the existing print and finishing solutions.
Datalase´s products are for sale during drupa.

Epson designs and produces all parts of their ample printer range themselves. According to ancient Japanese philosophy it is necessary to produce thinks with respect for nature and the environment with a focus on continuous improvement. Epson will show its professional large format and label printers at drupa.
Epson invests 1,3 M$ every day in research and development, 6% of turnover. The company owns 50,000 patents worldwide. Epson will also start producing robots and will focus on textiles which is an important growth market. For more info please read the following press release.
Epson presents its most advanced range of professional production inkjet printers and presses at drupa 2016
Latest solutions deliver market-leading quality, productivity and ROI for wide range of added-value and creative applications and demonstrate Epson’s commitment to continuous improvement and technology development
2nd March 2016 – Epson will demonstrate its most advanced range of professional production inkjet printers and presses at drupa 2016 for label, sign & display, photographic, apparel, décor and product decoration applications. (Hall 5/Stand A01, 31st May – 10th June 2016, Düsseldorf, Germany). The Epson booth at drupa will be split into 5 zones: Prepress, Sign & Display, Label, Copy Shop and Technology to allow visitors to focus on specialist demonstrations and applications and experience the significant business benefits each can deliver.
The company has stepped up its development programme and more than doubled the rate of new product launches for the professional printing industry since the last drupa in 2012. Epson is committed to continuous improvement to ensure that its inkjet printers, presses and inks deliver new levels of quality, performance, ease of use and ROI. As a result, over the last six months alone, Epson has launched 13 new printers and these will be demonstrated together for the first time at drupa.
Epson designs and manufactures compact, precise and energy-saving inkjet printers and all use Epson’s own micropiezo printheads and ink. Every component of an Epson printer – hardware, printhead, ink and firmware – is optimised to deliver the best possible performance.
Reducing the environmental impact of its technology is a major focus for Epson. The design and precision of the inkjet printers and presses reduces energy and ink use, and cuts down waste. For example, the new SureColor SC-S printers demonstrated at drupa use up to 4 x less energy compared to latex technology, about 15% less ink than the previous SureColor generation and up to 50% less ink than latex technology (depending on the substrate and quality printed).
Epson’s third generation PrecisionCore TFP printhead in single head and linehead configurations is making a significant impact on Epson’s development of its printers and presses, enabling products that deliver higher quality, higher speeds and better all-round performance. To meet predicted demand, Epson has just announced a €160 million investment in a new factory in Japan to triple printhead production capacity for new professional print products currently under development.
In line with its commitment to meet the changing needs of the printing industry and to maximise the potential of many different print applications, Epson has merged its wide-format, label and textile businesses to create a major new global ‘Professional Printing Solutions’ division, headed by COO Sunao Murata. drupa 2016 provides the launch pad for this new division where Epson will show how it is transforming professional printing with a range of smart production systems that are affordable, easy-to-use and which produce a wide variety of ‘added-value’ creative products.
Sunao Murata, COO Professional Printing Division, Seiko Epson, says: “Our commitment to R&D and continual improvement shapes everything we do. The industry will see the very latest results at drupa where we will demonstrate more professional inkjet printers and presses than ever before – all delivering the ultimate in production performance and user experience – and show how companies can use them to build successful businesses and enter new markets.”

PaperLab signals the launch of a new smart recycling division for Epson, which will investigate how the technology can be applied on a larger scale in the future.
Gecht does not only recognize the internet of things, but also the image of things; everything can be printed. The big advantage of inkjet is that the head doesn´t touch the material so that anything can be printed. Textile printing is one of the new growth market which will be EFI focus: “print now is everywhere”.
Packaging and label printing are the biggest growth markets, according to Gecht. This market grows faster than the iPhone market (percentage wise). EFI recently acquired US ink manufacturer Rialco. The reason being that the company sees growth in ink, with a future for water-based inks. EFI will show a new kind of ink during drupa.
EFI will also bring a new platform for managing all sorts of printers.
The software will give companies a better insight into problems and advises on solutions.
Pitney Bowes offers printers and mail handling machines for the direct mail industry. The company does not brand itself as a product supplier, but as a solution supplier, including software and digial mail.
According to Pitney Bowes´ Mark Hirz they will also show something else at drupa. A personalised video which can be used interactively on both sides. The results is more clicks and longer view times. The video literally speaks to the client, based on client name and the time and text changes. Hirz: it seems simple, but it isn´t.” It is similar to a conversation with a robot.
The name of this product is Engage One video
More about Pitney Bowes at drupa in the below press release.
The world is changing and the way we communicate has become dramatically different says Xerox. We live in a mobile world. That is reality. This has a significant influence on the printing industry. Print is a bridge between the physical world and the digital world.
Xerox sees the document market as 50 billion printed pages worldwide with only 2 percent of these produced digitally.
Xerox´s theme for drupa is Let the Work Flow in Hall 8B. The company shows inspirational product for various market segments.
Xerox´s future technology focuses on inkjet. They will introduce a sheet inkjet press named Brenva. The second announcement is an inkjet printer named trivor 2400. All products are based on the Impika platform which was acquired by Xerox.
Important items are a simple path to digital and more unmanned printers. According to Konica there is a long way to go, because only 2,7% of packaging, label and textile is digital.
Konica Minolta will have a live band playing at drupa and everything the band needs will be produced at drupa. A case study which lets the music play.

In Hall 8b, Fujifilm’s main presence at drupa 2016, the company will be showcasing how these inkjet technologies can contribute to the expansion and development of new printing applications and opportunities. Of equal importance however, will be Fujifilm’s traditional technologies and solutions which are designed to optimise existing print processes, in particular offset and flexo print production. At drupa, Fujifilm will be focusing on demonstrating how its recently launched “SUPERIA” and “FLENEX” solutions can optimise production, help printers improve their profitability and ultimately provide the foundation for a strong print business.
Fujifilm’s stand in Hall 8b is divided into five different zones for different types of printing application. The details of each zone are given below:
Commercial Printing Zone
Centre stage in the commercial printing zone will be the Jet Press 720S, with Fujifilm showcasing how this press is transforming print businesses all around the world, and why it will continue to lead the market in B2 inkjet digital printing. Featuring a number of new enhancements, the press will be operating in a true production environment, with visitors able to see the competitive benefits that can be gained using this press, which remains the only proven, reliable and fully commercially available B2 inkjet production press.
At the heart of this zone will be Fujifilm’s XMF Workflow. This leading workflow solution has gained worldwide acclaim for its native PDF architecture, its ability to efficiently manage digital and offset print production, and for its unrivalled speed and flexibility. At drupa 2016, Fujifilm will be demonstrating how the ability of XMF and the workflow’s Controller Module can integrate with post-press devices and MIS systems respectively to optimise production processes.
Fujifilm will also be showcasing its new resource-saving SUPERIA solution for offset printing. SUPERIA combines all the company’s pre-press and pressroom expertise in a solution which optimises resources across the offset print process, giving printers the opportunity to reduce materials, labour, water, energy and their environmental impact to help make their businesses more efficient and ultimately improve profitability.
Wide Format Printing Zone
Within this zone are a wide range of leading solutions for wide and super-wide format print production. At the high volume end of the scale, Fujifilm will be showcasing a new Onset X Series printer for the first time in Europe. The Onset X represents the latest evolution in Inca Digital’s advanced “scalable architecture” concept, and the productivity achieved with a choice of Fujifilm’s Dimatix printheads and Uvijet inks allow this industrial printer to be used for a diverse range of production requirements. In addition, it‘s 14-channel capability provides incredible versatility and allows the printer to be upgraded in the field to meet changing business needs.
Also being showcased at drupa will be the new Uvistar Hybrid 320. This is a 3.2m, combination flatbed and roll printer, capable of producing high quality output at speeds of up to 195 square metres an hour. Utilising Fujifilm’s Dimatix Q-Class printheads and Uvijet UV inks, the Uvistar Hybrid 320 prints full greyscale output at an exceptional quality level and delivers a wide gamut of vibrant colours. The press is available in an eight-channel configuration with CMYK, Lc, Lm, Lk and Orange ink channels.
Leading the mid-range portfolio will be Fujifilm’s Acuity F flatbed printer which is a dedicated flatbed production printer delivering high quality print at up to 155 square meters per hour, and is available in six or seven channel versions.
Finally Fujifilm’s highly successful roll-fed inkjet printer, the Acuity LED 1600 II, will be showcased. This printer uses proprietary Fujifilm Dimatix printheads and Uvijet inks to achieve wide colour gamut reproduction and smooth tonal gradations, while demonstrating a class-leading productivity of 33 square metres per hour in the high speed mode.
Also on show in the wide format zone will be application examples produced using Fujifilm’s unique Uvijet KV inks suitable for thermoforming applications.
Package Printing Zone
Over the last few years, Fujifilm has been applying both its traditional and new inkjet technologies to the field of package printing, with drupa 2016 representing a key milestone in the development of these solutions. At drupa 2016, the company will therefore be showcasing two solutions – a water-based flexo printing plate and a new LED-UV inkjet digital press for the flexible package printing market.
Fujifilm will be showcasing its new advanced water-washable flexo plate, FLENEX FW, in the Package Printing Zone and will be demonstrating how label and flexible packaging converters can benefit from this high quality and low cost-in-use flexo plate. Thanks to advanced photopolymer technologies, FLENEX FW guarantees reduced dot gain and better ink transfer for cleaner and brighter print results, and can reduce platemaking times to less than 40 minutes.
This zone will also feature a new, next generation LED-UV inkjet press suitable for flexible packaging applications. This new press is ideally suited for printing on the underside of flexible packaging, and is powered by proprietary new Fujifilm image forming technology called “EUCON” (Enhanced Under Coating and Nitrogen purging technology).
Fujifilm’s new LED-UV inkjet press for flexible packaging applications continues the company’s core philosophy of offering high performance, high quality digital print solutions, and thanks to a reliable media handling system can deliver productivity of up to 50 metres per minute using the five standard CMYKW ink colours. In addition, as this new press uses an LED-UV curing and drying system, the amount of heat applied to the substrate is minimised, reducing power consumption and enabling the press to be used with a wide range of flexible substrates.
FUJIFILM Inkjet Technology Zone
As a core part of Fujifilm’s presence at drupa 2016, this zone, situated at the centre of the booth, will demonstrate how the company’s cutting-edge UV & water-based ink technologies, leading piezo-electric printheads and world-class software and systems integration expertise, showcased under a new brand name “FUJIFILM Inkjet Technology”, are being used to deliver today’s inkjet printing solutions and create the printing applications of the future. The potential to expand the application of inkjet technologies and digital printing to different substrates and potential new business fields is significant and will be highlighted in this zone.
Print Applications Zone
This zone will showcase a variety of innovative and creative printed materials produced using Fujifilm’s diverse solutions. In a tie-up with Japanese brand owners operating their businesses in the spirit of Japanese craftsmanship and hospitality, Fujifilm will exhibit print samples from each company using a wide range of printing methods, including next-generation digital inkjet presses, wide-format printers, and more traditional offset and flexo printing systems. The zone will highlight the premium quality and productivity that can be produced using Fujifilm solutions.
Fujifilm invites printers to visit stand A25 in Hall 8b to see how the company’s innovations can add value to their businesses.

Company Unveils HP PrintOS, a Cloud-Based, Mobile Platform That Simplifies and Automates Print Production Management
DUSSELDORF, GERMANY–(Marketwired – Feb 29, 2016) – HP Inc. (NYSE: HPQ) today announced that it will exhibit the industry’s broadest portfolio of digital printing solutions at drupa 2016, including new advancements that demonstrate how HP digital print technology enables print service providers (PSPs) to reinvent their possibilities.
The company also today unveiled HP PrintOS, a cloud-based operating system that reinvents how customers manage print production. The revolutionary new platform will make its worldwide debut at drupa 2016.
For the first time in drupa history, the HP Graphics Solutions Business is hosting the tradeshow’s largest exhibit in hall 17 and the world’s biggest digital printing showcase for the eleven day event. In keeping with the evolving landscape of drupa, HP will display its latest technology for the general commercial printing segment, in addition to new hardware and solutions for labels and packaging, large-format and sign and display application areas.
“HP is bringing the full power of our vast portfolio of digital printing solutions to drupa 2016, featuring breakthrough innovations,” said Rob Le Bras-Brown, global head of print marketing, HP Inc. “With today’s introduction of HP PrintOS and more ground-breaking pre-drupa announcements to come, HP is following through on our promise to ‘keep reinventing’ with advancements across application segments that truly enable our customers to reinvent their possibilities.”
Simplifying and automating print production management
An open, secure and integrated platform for print production management, PrintOS is a cloud-based operating system ideal for PSPs of all segments and sizes for use with HP Indigo, PageWide Web Press, Scitex and Latex digital printing technology.
Featuring a suite of intuitive web-based and mobile applications, PrintOS helps simplify and automate print production, enabling customers to start printing jobs, faster. Additionally, cloud connectivity allows customers to monitor print status remotely as well as track and improve production performance over time.
“We run a multi-shift, multi-press operation at ProCo, yet we have not previously had a window into the production performance of our digital operation,” said Graeme Parry, production director, ProCo. “PrintOS offers anytime, anywhere access, enabling more visibility than ever into our business. Not only are we using PrintOS to drive better print performance, but it’s also helping raise the bar of our staff, empowering operators with the right tools to better oversee production. It’s fantastic.”
Among others, PrintOS applications include:
- Box, a tool simplifying job onboarding through non-automated channels like email and file transfer services. Often, a disproportionate amount of time and effort are invested in handling jobs prior to production. By standardizing processes, Box reduces upfront overhead, increasing capacity and improving profitability.
- Site Flow, which combines automated order submission, pre-press and shop floor management capabilities to address the needs of PSPs serving the business-to-business and business-to-business-to-consumer markets. The application allows PSPs to offer attractive costs and higher levels of service to fulfill hundreds, thousands or tens of thousands of individual, personalized print orders every day, including direct shipment to end customers.
HP Indigo and PageWide Web Press customers can begin using PrintOS on May 31, 2016. Many apps will be available without charge to existing customers with a service contract, while certain apps will be subject to monthly subscription and usage charges.(1)(2)
