It was not only KBA who published good numbers. Heidelberg, ManRoland, Sappi and Kodak also showed positive results.
Heidelberg showed an increase in its EBITDA and EBIT (indicators for profitability). Langley, ManRoland´s owner, expects to make a profit of nearly a 100 million this year. Sappi´s profit was up 3 million in the 2nd quarter of this year compared to the same period last year. Kodak was able to contain their losses and increased their Sonora Process Free Plates sale by 66%. Add to that the fact that the turnover for US printers was up 5,3%, according to Dr Joe Webb of WhatTheyThink making June the best month for printers since 2010 and you cannot but conclude that we are slowly recovering.

One of the best functions of Corel Painter is digital painting with ´real´ brushes. Corel makes this available via a plug-in in Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. For 50US$ you will get 11 different brushes which allow you to add wonderful effects to Photoshop images, as can be seen on the Painter website. If it is a smart move for Corel to give away its ´dowry´ to its biggest competitor is something only the future will tell. It is anyway great news for digital artists.

If like Google you turn a huge profit without having real products, but still have ambitions and want to explore different markets the old company structure is not good enough. Add to that the fact that the interests of the founders is going in a different direction than just a search engine company and you will understand why Sergey Brin and Larry Page have founded Alphabet Inc. Within that alphabet of companies, their website is called abc.xyz, the original Google.com still has a very important place with the highest profits. But growth markets such as health are getting more attention from the two founders and need to ensure that the original one-trick-pony company is turned into a multifaceted emporium suitable for the future. Products such as Android, Chrome and YouTube will remain under the Google umbrella and will undoubtedly develop and grow further, but they are not exactly new and exciting. Exciting are the new products for health, quality of life and whatever Brin and Page will think of next. If they are just as revolutionary and transformative as Google there is a lot still to be expected from Alphabet Inc.

¨To get inspiration for interior decorating people prefer to look at printed matter¨. A great ad for print in the Dutch Metro newspaper of 10 August. The paper has a full page dedicated to the new Ikea catalogue.
Today the new catalogue of Swedish furniture giant Ikea will appear worldwide. Not just in print, the catalogue can also be viewed in the new Ikea app. You can download (parts of) the brochure and virtually place furniture in your room, as shown in the picture. According to Metro a whopping 29 million paper copies have been distributed in 49 markets, in 71 versions and 34 languages.
Funny fact: the Dutch guide is bigger than the American because of smaller postboxes in the US.
