Screen Graphic and Precision Solutions announces the global launch of a 3.2m wide roll-to-roll system for its Truepress Jet W3200UV. The new system integrates with the flatbed Truepress Jet W3200UV to turn it into one of the industry’s most versatile wide-format printers, producing high-quality UV print on both sheeted and roll-fed substrates at 150 sqm/hr. The Truepress Jet W3200UV with new dual flat/roll capability makes its global debut at FESPA 2015 (May 18-22 in Cologne, Germany, Stand U20/Hall 6).
The Truepress Jet W3200UV flat/roll printer is a joint development between Screen and its subsidiary company Inca Digital. It unites Screen’s roll media handling technology, developed for its successful high-end digital web presses, with Inca’s leading digital flatbed technology. Able to handle rolls from 0.75m up to 3.2m wide, the new system can be purchased with a new printer or can be easily retro-fitted in the field. Very easy to use, the operator can switch from a fast flatbed into a fast roll-fed printer in the time it takes to walk around the machine! Once the table is locked the printer effectively converts into roll mode. The 3.2m x 1.6m wide flatbed table is driven by magnetically encoded linear motors to achieve precision movement. In addition, the printer includes features typically found on printers that come with much higher price tags, such as pop-up registration pins, auto-cleaning capability, intelligent nozzle mapping and a head-crash detection system.
The Truepress Jet W3200UV features six colours plus two white-ink channels and different print modes which can be selected depending on the finished product. For example, Photo Quality and Fine Photo Quality modes can reproduce fine lines, serif fonts and detail in highlight areas, while the Production Mode is optimized for point-of-purchase materials. Text as small as 4-point and 6-point reversed are sharp and legible in all modes. Like the flatbed machine, the new roll system features an advanced multilayer option enabling up to 8 layers to be merged.
As a result, this single all-round printer can produce the widest range of both commodity and high-value products, such as everyday display graphics, hard/soft signage, wallcoverings, banners, lorry curtains, window film, quality POS, 1 to 8 multi-layers, backlit and day/night graphics and accurate 75lpi lenticulars.
“Retailers today want their print suppliers to be able to produce a wide variety of graphics and POS products using many different solid and flexible substrates, with a fast turnaround and at the best quality,” says Bui Burke, Vice-President, Screen Europe. “The versatile Truepress Jet W3200UV’s ability to print on both roll and flat materials at full 150 sq/m hr production speeds delivers the best of both worlds. No other printer comes close to this level of flexibility.”
There are two models of the Truepress available: the 85sqm/hr Truepress Jet W3200UV ST and the 150sqm/hr Truepress Jet W3200UV HS. Users can upgrade from the ST to the HS on-site as and when they wish.
A recent study by Carat, one of the world´s leading independent media planning and buying specialists, show that search engines continue to play a less important role in finding products. More than 50% of users rely on finding information on sites they trust such as BBC and Amazon. It is a trend that we see as well on our Blokboek.com site where the amount of returning visitors continues to grow, just like the time they spend on the site.

Many multi million dollar datacentres store the ever growing stream of data from enterprises and consumers. These ´secret´ datacentres are sometimes hidden underground. Not however the new Equinix datacentre. At a cost of 145 million Euro the company built a futuristic glass multi-storey building in Slough, UK. Data from the International Business Exchange is stored here. Equinix realised similar buildings in New York, Toronto, Melbourne, Shanghai and Singapore. They run more than a 100 centres in 33 countries. It just goes to show that there is money to be made with our data.

FESPA is partnering with non-profit 3D industry initiative, 3DION, to bring the 2D printing and 3D printing industry together at FESPA 2015, which takes place in Cologne, Germany, from 18 – 22 May 2015. As its slogan ‘2D Printing meets 3D Printing’ suggests, visitors will be able to explore the business opportunities of adding 3D to an established print service offering. It also promises to stretch the imagination of anyone interested in this fast growing phenomenon, with live scanning and printing demonstrations as well as regular presentations.
The 3D Print Showcase (Hall 8, Stand A72) will feature a number of 3DION members that offer a wide range of products and services, including 3D industry leader Stratasys, 3D pioneer 3D Systems, entry-level 3D printer manufacturer Makerbot, and Roland DG, the first 2D print manufacturer to enter the 3D market. Antonius Koester will demonstrate three different scanning systems addressing different applications like art, fashion and textile printing, while mein3.de will present a workflow with scanning system and graphics tablet. Furthermore 3DION will feature Adobe, Artec, Botspot, Canto, the Dream Maker Overlord, Voxeljet and its strategic 2D partner Epson.
Sheldon Nazaré of 3DION comments: “The FESPA 3D Print Showcase should be a ‘must-see’ for every visitor at FESPA 2015, whether it’s a printer seriously considering to expand the company’s service offering, or someone merely curious about 3D printing and the opportunities it represents. The interest in 3D printing we’ve seen in the print community over the past year has been incredible, particularly for the automotive, architecture, medicine and prototyping sectors.”
“Any print service provider concerned with the future of their business should therefore ensure that they’re up to date with 3D printing and what it potentially offers – especially when it comes to prototyping,” adds 3DION´s Thomas Meurers. “They will find all of this information on the stand.”
Thomas will give his popular presentation ‘3D Printing – The Limitations lie in your Phantasy’ on Friday 22 May at 11.30 in the Education Hub, Hall 8 Stand 890.

I.T. Strategies Inc., consultancy for the digital print market, reports a fierce growth in the number of pages produced with continues feed ink jet production printers. A 16% increase, a percentage that is expected also in the coming years. This growth will be at the expense of toner printers as well as offset. They furthermore predict that the number of engines installed will grow this year with 252 worldwide. For 2016, 2017 and 2018 this will be 276, 294 and 314 respectively. This seems slow, but taking into account the investment in these printing giants is between 800,000 and 1,25million Euro, it is understandable. A summary of the report can be downloaded via our download page.
