A logical decision with which most exhibitors will be happy, because the DRUPA is a very interesting happening which attracts more visitors from more countries every time.

The new Markthal in Rotterdam has a very special ceiling which hides some very interesting graphics technology. The colourful image with larger than life fruits, vegetables, meats, breads and butterflies – designed by Dutch artist Arno Coenen – consists of 4000 aluminium panels printed by TS Visuals. For a good reproduction the resolution had to be comparable to that of a high quality printed magazine. The image used was 1,47TB (400,000 megapixels). The 4000 panels of 1,5×1,5 metres each cover a 6 kilometres (11,000 m2) of unique images.
TS Visuals used a process called sublimation, applying visuals to coated metal or glass. The ink of the printed design is heated to such high temperatures that it turns into a gas and penetrates the coated aluminum panel. It transfers and then forms a durable permanent layer inside the coating. The panels and coatings are graffiti-resistant. The result is a beautiful ceiling which already has been compared to the Sistine Chapel.

In my previous life my mentor Bertus Gardien taught me always to look out for an sales opportunity. I was reminded of this when I read the Forbes story about Uber driver Gavin Escolar. It´s not with his taxi that Gavin earns his money. He uses his car as a showroom for his jewellery business. Driving for Uber he met about 3820 prospects over the past 18 months and as such earned an income of 252,000US$. Gavin talks to all his passengers about his hobby business and it has results.
I´m not sure if all of our readers feel comfortable talking about their business to everyone they meet, but thinking about where and when you can find clients is something we can learn from Gavin. You carry your showroom with you always on your smart phone. Read the full story by Forbes journalist Jon Youshaei via this link.

Steve Jobs´ heritage is not just a company with incredible profits, but also a stream of patents which changed our digital world. Kenedict, a company founded by André Vermeij, specializes in analysis of innovative developments. Kenedict designed an interactive infographic of all these patents (from January 1978 until November 2014). The infographics visualize the number, the importance and the timeline of these innovations. From the first patent requested by Steve Wozniak in 1977 – a micro computer for use with video display – up to and including the patents Jony Ive got for the design of Apple devices. A very impressive list perfectly visualized by Vermeij. Follow the link to Kenedict´s site for the infographics and a description.
