PERSBERICHT

RadTech Europe conference explores the vibrant UV/EB technologies and markets

The end-use markets for UV/EB curing have grown dramatically in the two years since RadTech Europe held its last conference. With its headline topic ‘UV/EB:  best in class!’, and taking place as in 2015 at the well-received Clarion Hotel, Prague, 17-19 October, the RTE Conference and Exhibition 2017 will be a large and lively event, with an in-depth formal agenda complemented by an extensive on-site supplier exhibition and strong networking opportunities.

A detailed update:  technologies, markets, legislation today, radiation curing is used in a wide variety of applications, ranging from industrial coatings and packaging to electronics, automotive components and 3D printing/additive manufacturing. The event’s agenda has been structured to provide a detailed update on innovations and developments for major materials and equipment suppliers at all levels, as well as for the end users whose needs they serve. Over the three days, Conference Chairman Dawn Skinner, Process Development Manager for Heraeus Noblelight Ltd,  has assembled more than 60 speakers, who will cover wide-ranging topics of current interest and relevance, centred around new UV/EB and UV-LED technology developments and applications.

The programme will broadly feature developments in photochemistry, photoinitiators, formulations, coatings, equipment, and printing; innovations in materials and applications, including 3D printing; and legislative issues.  The inclusion of parallel conference sessions in the programme enables participants to choose their own special-interest topics, and to gain particular value from the in-depth coverage of particular subject areas. With each session chaired by an industry expert, this truly international event will host speakers – academics, suppliers across the value chain, and end users from around the European continent – and beyond. Also featured in the conference programme will be the presentation ceremony to the winner of the industry’s long-established, prestigious Paul Dufour Award for the best conference paper.

Major industry exhibition. The single-floor integration of conference and breakout rooms with the exhibition is a popular feature of the hotel, both for event participants and organisers, and offers a special opportunity to optimise networking, both around the exhibition stands and in the relaxed setting of the ‘coffee bar’. Following a sell-out of exhibition space in 2015, this year’s bookings already feature more than 20 companies. The exhibition will include a Business Information Market, featuring product and equipment introductions by RadTech Europe members, and offering a presentation platform for students — tomorrow’s industry leaders.
RadTech Europe’s Secretariat is handling a ‘call for submissions’ for this part of the programme. Additionally, interested parties unable to attend the formal conference sessions may separately visit the exhibition. Networking the event will also host a lively social programme in the evenings: at an onsite ‘after-work party’ with live music in the hotel, and at a special dinner in the Knights’ Hall restaurant at Prague’s ancient U Fleků brewery, which has been brewing beer continuously for the last 500 years.

Registration now open. With the detailed conference programme now announced on the conference website, and exhibitor bookings and conference registrations bookings coming in fast, RadTech Europe General Secretary Mark Macaré is enthusiastic. ‘In an arena where there is so much innovation, and so much market development, this will certainly be an exciting event,’ he comments. ‘We expect to attract around 500 delegates from across the radiation curing value chain — both from Europe and further afield. Our agenda is very wide-ranging and inclusive, and reflects the vibrant nature of the current market for this very well established and well-proven technology.’ Event sponsors The RadTech Europe Conference & Exhibition is sponsored by a number of leading companies working within the discipline, including: Gold Sponsors Allnex, BASF SE, Rahn AG, IGM Resins, Arkema France – BU Sartomer, Siltech Europe, and BCH Bruehl – Chemikalien Handel GmbH, and by leading media in the sector, including: Paint & Coatings Industry, Adhesives and Sealants, Converter & Cartotecnica, The Inkjet Conference, Labelworld and Coating International. See full sponsor list on this website under exhibitors.

About RadTech Europe As an active industry association, RadTech Europe aims to promote the benefits and use of UV/EB curing technology by providing an organised, collaborative platform on which to interact and share information and documentation; increase the profile of radiation curing; organise and participate in educational, informative, networking events, committees, and working groups on relevant industry topics;  and achieve effective representation in public affairs initiatives.

Details of the 2017 conference programme and online delegate/exhibitor booking are available on this website.

Ghent Workgroup welcomes new member Stuttgart Media University

09 aug 2017
Categorie: ,

With bringing together the combined know-how of the former University of Printing and Media, and the University of Librarianship and Information, Stuttgart Media University covers a broad spectrum of media expertise: from printed to electronic media, from mass media and media theory to production, and from design to making media available. As an established academic institution, they are now joining the Ghent Workgroup (GWG) as an educational member and thereby commit to fully supporting and incorporating the Ghent Workgroup Specifications into their education programs.

As a reputed international community of industry leaders across Europe and the US, the Ghent Workgroup is committed to producing specifications and sharing best practices for PDF exchange. Its goal is to provide valuable tools and guidelines to automate and test processes in order to promote consistent output results. In October of last year, the Ghent Workgroup released the Ghent PDF Output Suite 5 that allows end users of graphic arts equipment as well as developers of applications that handle PDF files to use this test suite to determine whether their workflows are behaving as expected.

Prof. Dr. Thomas Hoffmann-Walbeck of Stuttgart Media University comments:  “The work of the Ghent Workgroup is very important to us. We have joined the GWG to follow and participate in the process of developing specifications and share this knowledge with the students. We would like to make the work of GWG more popular among the students, so that they can master not only their practical projects during their studies, but above all their work in their future workplaces.”

David Zwang, Chairman, Ghent Workgroup, concludes: “We are pleased to welcome Stuttgart Media University as a new member. Our goal is to create practical workflow tools that make daily production tasks easier and faster, and it is important for industry newcomers to receive exact instructions on the different prepress processes, especially in PDF creation, preflighting and production. We welcome the opinions from students of Stuttgart Media University and encourage them to promote the work of the Ghent Workgroup in their future print, publishing, and packaging endeavors.”

Xitrons software will drive new digital label presses and Flexo/Resin/Thermal CTP Device

09 aug 2017
Categorie:

Xitron, the leading independent developer of RIP and workflow products for commercial, digital, and high-speed inkjet printing has announced an agreement with Liaoning Basch Digital for the development of a cross-product prepress workflow. The system will be designed for Basch’s Panthera® 3322C color inkjet label press, the 3326V digital inkjet varnish press, and will also be capable of driving the Panthera® CTP line.

The Panthera® 3322C uses the Memjet Sirius inkjet head and is capable of print speeds up to 18 meters per minute with a maximum web width of 330mm. Xitron’s Northstar RIP and workflow will handle job submission, job tracking, spot color matching, label-based step-and-repeat, and variable data input, driving the press at full rated speed.

“We’re extremely pleased to partner with Basch on this project,” commented Karen Crews, President of Xitron. “Our experience with other Memjet OEMs places us ahead of the curve in development of these systems, so time-to-market will be short. Of equal benefit is our background with commercial offset and flexographic CTP devices,” she added, “which will allow us to bring a full-featured workflow to Basch’s Panthera® CTP line as well.”

Designed to image flexographic, resin, and metal printing plates, the Panthera® 500G offers resolutions up to 4,000 dpi with a maximum plate size of 670mm x 640mm. It’s capable of imaging plates at speeds up to three square meters per hour and it features an auto-focusing system, which matches the laser energy with drum speed and the plate material being used. “We chose Xitron as our workflow partner because of their ability to offer a complete solution,” said Mr. Du Xuan, GM of Liaoning Basch. “Instead of supporting several separate systems based on output type, we are able to collapse to a single architecture that includes the features necessary for high-speed, color-accurate throughput regardless of destination.”

Basch demonstrated the Panthera® 3322C this past May during ChinaPrint 17 in Beijing. They will also be exhibiting at LabelExpo Asia in Shanghai beginning December 5th, where Xitron’s Northstar workflow will be driving multiple devices.

X-Rite Color-Eye: Kleur meten met je smartphone

08 aug 2017
Categorie:

PERSBERICHT

X-Rite brings colour measurement to smartphones

X-Rite and Pantone have announced the launch of Color-Eye, a groundbreaking solution that brings accurate colour measurement to smartphones and ecommerce applications. Color-Eye uses a smartphone and a colour calibration card to help consumers shop for new items that match or complement the colour of items they have at home. It delivers the highest level of colour consistency available in a consumer retail shopping application. Cosmetics, home and fashion and retail paint companies can integrate Color-Eye into their existing mobile shopping applications, allowing consumers to search, match and purchase goods with a high degree of colour confidence.

X-Rite research shows that consumers lack confidence in purchasing colour-critical items online. This uncertainty is typically due to past experiences which did not meet expectations and a difficulty in communicating colour from home to store. Consumers expect to be able to simply take a photo of the inspiration colour and match it to a desired item. However, digital camera technology alone cannot accurately determine an object’s colour, which is affected by lighting, glossiness, texture, angle of view, and sensitivity of the camera. Color calibration tools and colour software are required to help overcome these challenges to provide a more colour accurate image.

‘Colour is a deciding factor in a customer’s purchasing decision and can be a leading cause for customer returns,’ said Chris Winczewski, vice president, strategy and product planning, X-Rite. ‘Color-Eye is the only solution on the market that incorporates both a colour calibration card and software to ensure accurate colour results in a mobile application. With Color-Eye, retailers will be able to help customers accurately match a paint colour to a favorite pillow or accent piece, simply by capturing the colour on a mobile device. This has the potential to reshape how consumers search, match and purchase goods such as apparel, home décor or cosmetics on mobile devices.’

How Color-Eye Works
Color-Eye is a slim colour calibration card that is used in collaboration with a smartphone application to accurately measure the colour of any inspirational item. Color readings are incorporated into a retailer’s mobile shopping application and deliver the consumer a set of matching or coordinating products.

Color-Eye utilises X-Rite’s expertise to calibrate colour values across all lighting conditions. The application, in use with the smartphone, incorporates dual-illumination technology by taking two images with the flash on and off resulting in improved colour accuracy. The calibration card is manufactured with a unique process that creates both glossy bubbles and patches to help account for lighting glare. Together the calibration card and the X-Rite software help prevent bad colour matches due to poor lighting; and guides users as they position the phone to avoid glare. The result is a more reliable colour reading that can communicate with a brand or retailer’s ecommerce application and product database to deliver consumers matching or harmonizing products.

‘Color-Eye builds on the success of the X-Rite CAPSUREme Cosmetic offering that uses custom printed cards and a smartphone to match skin tones with foundation colours,’ continues Winczewski. ‘With Color-Eye, we have taken this technology a step further to account for lighting, texture and gloss in order to reliably match any item a consumer may have at home to find coordinating colours. Color-Eye gives retailers and paint manufacturers the opportunity to build consumer trust by enabling greater confidence in colour-critical purchases, both online and in-store. This increases consumer loyalty, reduces returns, and drives purchases of paint and beyond.’

Color-Eye currently supports iPhone SE, 6S, 6S+, 7, 7+; Android Nexus 5; and Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, S7, S7 Edge, S7 Active. Additional devices will be supported in the future.
