BioBusiness Arena gets 3 million Swedish kroner grant from Swedish agency Tillväxtverket to fund “Paper to replace plastic” project
June 27, 2017 – 03:41
SUNDSVALL, Sweden, June 27, 2017 (Press Release) -Prototype of a cup, created from the new material, paper with plastic properties.
BioBusiness Arena has been granted three million Swedish kroner from Tillväxtverket to fund the project “Paper to replace plastic”. The funding enables the further development of the region’s world-leading wood research. The focus of the project is now on developing the replacements for petroleum-based plastic products with the newly developed paper materials which has the properties of plastic.
Leading researcher in wood and cellulose at Mid Sweden University are developing paper materials that has similar properties to plastic. The material produced is resistant to water, which allows to using renewable products to replace plastic products in some new field. Start production from a renewable resource such as forest based material is a big benefit to the environment as we reduce the use of fossil based materials, such as oil.
The financing decision means that BioBusiness Arena and Åkroken Science Park, in collaboration with the Mid Sweden University Research Center, FSCN, now have the opportunity to work towards the future bio economy by working together to develop products such as cups, waterproof paper packages and paper yarns.
World is threatened by climate change and the destruction of the ecosystem with plastic waste. We need to shift to renewable materials and biodegradable products to avoid environmental disaster. New forest-based products are part of the solution and represents a major opportunity for our region, and Sweden, with our green treasure.
BioBusiness Arena is a long-term investment with the aim to promoting the innovation of sustainable products and services. With bio-renewable basis, we work strategically for more growth and jobs in Sundsvall region. Our hubs are in the middle of a growing science park and close cooperation with our regional incubator means that we have all the prerequisites to achieve our goals.

Digital workflow solutions such as those from Agfa, EFI and Fuji have been offering data from output devices for optimisation of workflow for years. With its new version 8.1 Kodak claims to go further than just device data and says to be able to communicate with EFI Fiery, HP, Ricoh, Konika Minolta, Landa and Komori devices. Another new characteristic of Prinergy 8.1 is the possibility to save the features of all devices in presets and use a universal Digital Job Ticket Editor.

Rochester, NY, Tuesday, July 18, 2017 —
Kodak today announced new digital capabilities in PRINERGY Workflow 8.1. With bi-directional connectivity to the broadest range of digital presses and a unique new Preset functionality, Kodak customers will now be able to streamline efficiently and reduce production costs while fully leveraging digital equipment.
Version 8.1 now offers bi-directional communication with EFI Fiery and HP Digital Front Ends allowing the Operator to make digital document decisions within PRINERGY Workflow. This updated version includes the PRINERGY Workflow 8 powerful, universal Digital Job Ticket Editor, the industry’s first workflow that enables production decisions based on real-time press information. The enhanced connectivity of PRINERGY Workflow 8.1 with EFI Fiery, HP, and continuing integration with Ricoh, Konica Minolta, Landa and Komori combined with PRINERGY Workflow’s iconic open infrastructure, provide customers with the greatest digital flexibility.

Start-up digital print business La Trama selects the Fujifilm Jet Press 720S to sit at the heart of its operations
Founded five months ago to provide fully customisable short to medium run length commercial print jobs of outstanding quality, La Trama Digital Print is a dynamic, modern digital print business. Based in Zamudio, Spain, the company was established by the founder of Estudios Durero, a print service provider specialising in point of purchase, sign and display and 3D print. La Trama offers an end-to-end service that starts with the initial design and ends with the final printed substrate.
“Fujifilm’s inkjet technology fits perfectly with what we are aiming to achieve here at La Trama,” says Josu López Txarterina, Managing Director, La Trama Digital Print. “The Jet Press 720S guarantees the quality and allows us to produce customised pieces at competitive prices. In the short time we’ve had it, the Jet Press 720S has printed magazines, catalogues, brochures, posters, art books and variable data elements.
“We’ve also been able to produce a variety of test runs and samples that we have used to attract new potential customers, and demonstrate the high quality output that can be achieved using the Jet Press 720S.”
Ander Soriano, Managing Director at Estudios Durero continues, “One common problem in the digital printing environment concerns the ability to produce high quality print on a variety of different grades of paper. This hurdle has been removed by the Jet Press 720S, thanks to the Rapid Coagulation Primer that is applied to the paper before printing commences.
“The primer allows us to use natural, untreated paper and delivers outstanding contrast and saturation results. The enhanced contrast and larger colour space, together with the fact that there is no printing blanket and drying is immediate, have been real surprises since we started using the press. Another great advantage of the wide colour gamut is its ability to reproduce many pantone colours, which has allowed us to print true-to-life flat colours.”
López Txarterina believes the recent installation of the Jet Press 720S gives them the competitive edge they need to really succeed in the market and comments: “With an output of 2,700 sheets per hour, in a constant 50×70 format, we’re delighted with what we’ve been able to achieve so far. The technology is incredibly robust – it’s like an offset press with digital heads – and allows us to switch between different jobs very easily, eliminating inefficient down-time. The quality is unlike anything we’ve seen before and allows us to get samples produced and sent to the customer in no time at all.
“Achieving uniform and consistent print quality all the time can be difficult, with the appearance of ink bursts, water and colour stability often a problem. With the Jet Press 720S, this problem does not exist and all prints that we have produced have an impressive uniformity that perfectly simulates the impression of flat ink.”
Concludes Joan Casas, Graphic Systems Manager, Fujifilm Spain: “La Trama Digital Print is a new business with a bold vision – to provide its customers with commercial print of the very highest quality with speed and flexibility. The Jet Press 720S, and the Fujifilm inkjet technology that drives it, is ideally placed to make this vision a reality. We look forward to continuing to partner with La Trama as the business develops and grows into the future.”

In Laurel Brunner´s Verdigris blog she talks about the fact that the growth of ecolabels is out of control. This growth is happening because companies and industries make up their own label and organisations that see it as a profitable business. She thinks a bigger role for GEN, the worldwide Global Ecolabel Network would help stop this.

ARKit will not only take care of a flood of new games which will transport players to different worlds, but will undoubtedly be used for advertising and other information. You can watch the introduction of ARKit with a number of very interesting examples via this link. One of the examples is putting IKEA furniture in your own environment. This will not make the IKEA catalogue (the biggest print order in the world) superfluous, but it does show that AR is here to stay for advertising and product information.

The TV viewing time has decreased in June from 168 minutes in 2016 to 154 minutes in 2017, a decrease of 8.3 percent. This makes June 2017 the lowest in the past decade. The lowest score up to now was July 2013. It is to be expected that July 2017 will be as low as under 150 minutes.
According to Medianews the reason for this is that young people are renouncing TV en masse. Programs with traditionally high viewing figures such as the Tour de France are only being watched by the older population.
