Quark, known from their desktop publishing software Xpress, has been acquired by private equity firm Parallax Capital Partners. The new owner wants to invest money to make Xpress more popular. Parallax is a software focused investor who, although it does not rule out other investments in this particular area, wants to put more marketing power behind Xpress to grow the number of users.

Carnegie Mellon University´s Future Interfaces Group has come up with a way to make a touchscreen from your desk. With hardware consisting of a mini projector and a 3D camera which can be screwed into your desklamp Desktopography miraculously changes your desk into an interactive workspace where you can manipulate objects. It is a cheap alternative for the Microsoft Surface table and picks up where the Xerox PARC Digital Desk in 1990 already showed what is possible with this technology. Contrary to the Digital Desk you do not need a heavy computer, the Desktopography software works with a standard computer.
