Agfa Graphics has released new versions of two elements within its Arziro ecosystem for the general security printing market. Arziro Design 3.0 drives comprehensive and flexible security printing, offering new security design features and integration with Arziro Authenticate 2.0 – the updated version of Agfa Graphics’ ultra-safe, encrypted distribution platform. Both solutions will be displayed at the Graphitec trade fair from 30 May to June 1 in Paris.
Complete solution, seamless compatibility
With the availability of new technologies, counterfeiting is on the rise, posing serious risks to businesses, governments and individuals worldwide. Pushing the boundaries of novel design, complexity and discretion, the Arziro ecosystem is capable of outsmarting forgers while streamlining the design process and production workflows of certificates, breeder documents, security cards, labels, stamps, vouchers, tickets, packages and more. The newest upgrade – Arziro Design 3.0 – offers full integration with Arziro Authenticate 2.0 as well as enhanced compatibility and functionality.
“With Arziro Design 3.0, users have the ability to develop extremely complex designs quickly and easily through a dedicated plugin,” says Andy Grant, Global Head of Software at Agfa Graphics. “On Mac or PC, users can smoothly work in the latest versions of Adobe Illustrator, enriching designs with customized security elements and using new tools and functions that aid in creating even more unique and complex security graphics. The upgrade also includes a brand-new module connecting it seamlessly with Arziro Authenticate as well as Arziro Plus, an advanced module for governments and security printers.”
Linking design, security and encrypted authentication
Arziro Authenticate 2.0 adds an even deeper layer of safety and security to the design sharing process by combining a dynamically generated QR code with a secure graphic. Anybody can check the authenticity of a design, document or solution by scanning its code via a smartphone, enabling at the same time the product owner to receive insightful user data in the process. With even greater business-focused functionality, Arziro Authenticate 2.0 includes additional functionality for driving customer engagement, e-commerce and supply chain management (track & trace) but also the possibility to create hybrid codes. For these hybrid codes, the security elements are printed in offset, flexo or gravure and the serialization elements are printed during a separate process with a digital printer such as an industrial inkjet printer.
“Totally integrable with Arziro Design 3.0, this upgrade of Arziro Authenticate is so much more than a secure authentication solution. It comes with new alert functionality, incorporates Google Analytics tools and supports hybrid codes and even more supply chain management (SCM) tags that can be customized according to intended markets or distributors,” Grant continues. “Even more, businesses can benefit from the rich data available to them through the Arziro SaaS server.”
Arziro Plus: powered by possibility
The premium version of Arziro is only available to certified security printers and governmental departments. Arziro Plus offers users complete security design freedom. For example, it comes with a new module, Arziro Blend, which generates new elements based on one or more selected elements with specific line distances and line weights, for even more design possibilities. In addition, Arziro Plus enables greater control of the output and printability of the designs, as well as advanced efficiency-enhancing functionalities.
“Arziro is a dedicated solution for the general security market, which is inspired by Fortuna, Agfa Graphics’ high security design solution. The complete Arziro security design ecosystem adds several new facets to the concept of state-of-the-art document security, using it not only to protect assets and information, but also to drive your business,” Grant concludes.

Integrale oplossing, naadloze compatibiliteit
Arziro Plus: alles is mogelijk

The parties had already been working closely together for a number of years to ensure UPM clients would get paper produced according to FSC norms. With this partnership the cooperation will be extended and the promotion of FSC will get a boost. Read more about this important cooperation in the press release below.
UPM and FSC announce a global strategic partnership
UPM and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) announce a global strategic partnership to develop solutions for advancing the uptake of FSC in the market. UPM and FSC signed the partnership agreement on 16 May 2017, during the FSC international members meeting in Karkkila, Finland. The partnership aims at delivering benefits to forest owners through FSC certification and to increase the FSC-certified wood supply.
UPM has actively cooperated with FSC both on international and national level for several years. The company has been involved in developing the FSC certification in order to enhance its applicability to the fragmented private forest ownership in Finland. This work will be strengthened through the newly agreed partnership.
‘We are delighted to formalize our collaboration with UPM. It is vitally important that FSC has a strong relationship with sustainability leaders of the paper and forest products industry to expand the FSC footprint globally. We agree on the importance of FSC for all parties in the value chain from forest owners to consumers. UPM and FSC also share a common understanding of the importance of responsible forestry and the sustainable use of wood in the bioeconomy’, said Kim Carstensen, director general, Forest Stewardship Council.
‘UPM’s customers take a growing interest in the company’s environmental performance and the sustainability of its operations. Third-party verified certificates give them useful information about the responsibility of UPM products’, said Heikki Vappula, EVP, UPM Biorefining.
‘The global partnership is a natural continuation to UPM Biofore strategy and to our valuable cooperation with FSC. FSC certification is an excellent tool for promoting responsible forestry. Our joint target is to extend the use of the FSC system in general as well as to develop UPM forest management and solutions for group certification to expand in the Finnish private smallholder structure’, Vappula continued.
To promote the certification of privately owned forests in Finland, UPM established an FSC group certification scheme in 2012. In 2016, the scheme (FSC C 109750) grew to cover about 300,000 hectares of private forest.
About the FSC
FSC works to take care of our forests and those who rely on them by protecting plant and animal species, Indigenous Peoples rights, forest workers’ safety, and much more. This is achieved through FSC certification, ensuring forests around the world are responsibly managed. FSC was established in 1994, and currently, over 190 million hectares of forest are FSC certified, in over 80 countries worldwide. FSC’s global headquarters are in Bonn, Germany, with a network of national offices in over 30 countries.

PERSBERICHT
Long Rapida 106 followed by a modern MIS from KBA-Sheetfed
Complete Optimus Dash MIS for use at three locations.
Investment decision clinched by multi-language capabilities, intuitive handling and flexible templates.
Implementation by the end of the year.
The Saint-Paul printing facility in Fribourg/Switzerland already shared the trade news headlines with KBA back in 2012, when it took delivery of a twelve-colour Rapida 106 in a new trend-setting configuration. At that time, the eight-colour perfector press, with additional coaters and intermediate drying towers, was the only one of its kind in Switzerland. It is used to print high-quality commercial products with inline finishing, and enables four colours and a coating to be applied to both sides of the sheet in a single pass.
Left to right: Thomas Burri (director, Saint-Paul), Dany Gaberthüel (Print Assist AG) and Markus Bauknecht (project manager) (1)
Recently, St. Paul Holding followed this up with an investment in a modern management information system. After intensive evaluation together with KBA and its Swiss subsidiary Print Assist, the decision team opted for the Complete Optimus Dash MIS sold by KBA. Alongside the inherent benefits of the system, it was the excellent service offered by Print Assist/KBA and absolute satisfaction with the Rapida 106, which sealed the choice for the Saint-Paul group, which not only operates its own printing plant, but also holds interests in various other companies in the print and media branch.
The fully-featured Complete Optimus Dash MIS comprises the basic system, JDF functionality, a planning chart, the Cloud Mobile module for mobile access to all data, an interface to financial accounting, and a CRM module. The MIS is to be used by 55 staff members at three locations in Switzerland. The three business units of the Saint-Paul group in Fribourg, Bulle (Glasson Print Bulle) and Estavayer-le-Lac (Centre d’Impression de la Broye) will thus be able to work integrally with their central customer base.
With its high flexibility, the Optimus Dash MIS from KBA-Sheetfed was an ideal choice for the printing operations of the Saint-Paul group (2)
One important point in favour of the Optimus Dash system offered by KBA-Sheetfed, was the philosophy based on lean management processes. It supports multiple languages, which is an absolute prerequisite in Switzerland, and provides highly flexible templates for calculations and order processing. Intuitive handling was another factor which underpinned the investment decision. The administrators can also adapt the Optimus system to any corporate changes or to future production challenges, without Saint-Paul being dependent on a single supplier.
After the kick-off in spring 2017, the MIS is expected to be fully implemented by the end of the year and can then go live on 1st January 2018.

Fleetwood-Fibre brings on an Evolution
Why one of the leading lights in packaging print chose the ROLAND 700 Evolution
Fleetwood-Fibre Packaging & Graphics is known for stirring the hearts of brand owners alike for their unique package designs and exquisite attention to detail.
When the demand of their client base required they seek additional production capacity, Fleetwood-Fibre looked for unrivalled offset technology – and found it in the ROLAND 700 Evolution.
Founded in 1952, Fleetwood-Fibre services multiple markets to include folding cartons, corrugated boxes & displays, rigid set-up cartons, thermoforming & contract packaging services.
ROLAND 700 Evolution
The newest addition to the Folding Division is the R707LV Evolution. This press is equipped with seven units plus an inline tower coater and fitted out to run both conventional and UV-inks.
The press delivers enhanced automation and innovative software packages making this press the newest marshal of print capability on the West Coast.
“Deciding factors for us were the functionality of the make-ready automation, coupled with Manroland Sheetfed’s Inline ColorPilot & System Brunner’s Instrument Flight® systems.
The ability to make-ready simultaneously in mere minutes is impressive, but the color control capability in a closed loop system providing gray balance and tonality control in production is fantastic” said Mark White, Senior Vice President of Manufacturing at Fleetwood-Fibre.
Sean Springett, CEO of Manroland Sheetfed USA & Canada: “Fleetwood-Fibre will be the first North American user of Manroland Sheetfed’s Red Dot Design award winning Evolution press. There is no possibility to make-ready an offset press faster than what Evolution technology brings; it is without doubt the pinnacle of the industry.
Add to that the capability to measure absolute density in-line, the ability to control solid tones, half tones and gray balance with priorities including G7®, ISO/PSO, GCR and solid balance, and that puts Fleetwood-Fibre literally in a league of their own.”
Fleetwood-Fibre’s newest addition will drastically reduce their overall make-ready times. The Evolution’s automation menu allows a Printer to build-up their capability with an a-la-carte style of options, from the SPL package or the Direct Drive® version of the Evolution, the simultaneous processes during make-ready can transition a printer in a few short minutes into the next job.
“The technology is one aspect of the decision we made here at Fleetwood-Fibre to invest in the Evolution. However, as equally important is the service and support structure Manroland Sheetfed has in place around the Evolution.
With topAnalysis production monitoring and the host of inspections and on-going support mechanically, electronically and operationally, they provide a fantastic support package around an inspiring machine” commented Bill Price, Folding Division Plant Manager.
