IBIS is exhibiting the Smart-binder SB-3 Plus HS at the 2017 Hunkeler Innovationdays show (Messe Lucerne, Switzerland, February 20- 23, 2017) in-line with Domino’s K630i inkjet press and a Hunkeler web cutter and plow-folder.
The Smart-binder system will include an off-line sheet pile feeder (SB-097), a cover feeder (CIF-102) and a new cover auto-loader (CAL-101).

The Domino-Hunkeler-IBIS system will produce finished booklets at up to 7,000 booklets/hour with varying thicknesses, both wire-stitched and ISG cold-glued. The Smart-binder will be fed in-line from the Domino printer and also off-line from the SB-097 sheet pile feeder. The new-design cover auto-loader CAL-100 increases the maximum cover pile pile height from 20 to 200 mm.
Also on display will be the new IBIS Smart-Data Analysis System (SAS-100) showing an analysis of all Smart-binder production data.

Long before the web was flooded with infographics National Geographic used illustrations to visually explain complex matters. Lang voordat het web overspoeld werd met infographics, gebruikte National Geographic al illustraties om complexe zaken visueel uit te leggen. De rijke historie van 128 jaar creatieve illustratie is nu samengevat in een lijvig koffietafelboek. Maar liefst 480 pagina’s in het formaat 24,6 x 37,2 cm geven een goed beeld van de evolutie van deze techniek.

Nieuwe technieken als VR inspirerende uitvinders, tot soms krankzinnige toepassingen. Zo heeft dating app Tinder tijdens de CES Tinder VR laten zien, een niet te serieus te nemen prototype van een VR device, waarmee twee dating kandidaten elkaar in een virtuele wereld kunnen leren kennen. Het is twijfelachtig of de Tinder VR ooit te koop zal zijn, maar een paar VR devices met internetverbinding lijkt het wel te gaan maken in de dating wereld. Wellicht ook een toepassing om online te verkopen?

New technology such as VR inspires inventors in the craziest ways. Dating app Tinder has shown its CES Tender VR, a hardly to be taken seriously prototype of a VR device in which two dating candidates can get to know each other in a virtual environment. It is doubtful that the Tinder VR will be for sale, but VR devices with internet connection seem to be possible in the dating world. Could be a solution for online sales as well?

Ricoh will showcase its expertise and innovation-led ethos in the production printing space at Hunkeler Innovationdays 2017. At Messe Lucerne, Switzerland from 20 to 23 February, Ricoh will present its continuous feed and cutsheet production presses, as well as recent additions to its growing software solutions portfolio.
The biennial event showcases solutions and practical applications to support fast-paced change in digital printing and finishing. Ricoh will feature the innovative Ricoh ProTM VC60000; demonstrating both roll-to-roll and roll-to-cut finishing capability with dynamic perforation enabled by Hunkeler systems. Also on show will be the Ricoh ProTM C9100colour cutsheet digital production press.
A broad range of pre-printed and show-produced samples will demonstrate a variety of creative possibilities. This include perfect bound books for the publisher Elwin Street and the guide for the Speed of Light photography exhibition. Posters, postcards, loyalty cards and statements will also be on show. There will also be a direct mail application featuring three different duplex A4 mail pieces output to different devices.
Ricoh’s Digital Book Printing Solution (which is designed to manage the challenges of on demand book printing) with TotalFlow BatchBuilder and an integrated workflow for a direct mail application will also be on display. Furthermore, the automated configuration of imposition and setup of inline finishing using Ricoh ProcessDirector 3.5 will be demonstrated.

Komori has introduced a new OffsetOnDemand offset press. The Lithrone GX44RP is a full colour duplex press which is not only remarkable for its level of automation, but also for its maximum paper size of 840x1150mm. Thanks to the special gripper system the maximum print area is also remarkable, 820x1140mm. The automation with the KHS-AI and Full A-APC ensures superfast plate changes. Rapid drying is guaranteed by the H-UV system with which the GX44RP is equipped. Another novelty is the duplex system which uses the same side for perfecting. This means that there is no extra gripper margin needed which reduces paper waste.
The new Lithrone is not the fastest press in its class, with a maximum of 15,000 prints per hour, but if the price is as competitive as other Litrhone presses it seems to be the ideal press for smaller quantities which make OffsetOnDemand quite possible.

De Lithrone GX44RP is een full color duplex pers die niet alleen opvalt door zijn ver doorgevoerde automatisering, maar ook door zijn maximale papierformaat, 840×1150 mm. Dankzij een speciaal grijpersysteem is het maximale afdrukgebied ook opvallend, 820×1140 mm. De automatisering met het KHS-AI en Full A-APC zorgt voor supersnelle plaatwisseling. Snelle droging is gegarandeerd, omdat de GX44RP is uitgevoerd met het H-UV systeem. Een andere nieuwigheid is het vellenomkeersysteem, dat ervoor zorgt dat bij de weerdruk dezelfde zijde wordt gebruikt. Hierdoor is geen extra grijperwit nodig, wat een besparing in papierafval oplevert.

DKZET Offsetrotatie in Hapert heeft een nieuwe Kodak Q800 Trendsetter plaatbelichter aangeschaft. ‘Onze nieuwe aanwinst biedt een aantal significante voordelen’, zegt directeur Lex Peeters. ‘Zo is de snelheid van de nieuwe Trendsetter toegenomen. Wij verwerken 40 platen per uur. Het chemieverbruik is nog verder afgenomen, zonder dat dit ten koste gaat van de afdrukkwaliteit. Maar het belangrijkste winstpunt is, dat onze plaatbelichter optimaal functioneert binnen de nieuwe Kodak Prinergy Workflow 8, die aanzienlijk is verbeterd.’ CTP operator Fons Harmsen beaamt dat. ‘Wij werken hier al vanaf 2003 met Kodak plaatbelichters en offsetplaten. We kunnen er dus mee lezen en schrijven. Aan de nieuwe Trendsetter waren we dan ook snel gewend. Ook onze DTP-ers kunnen er mee omgaan, het spreekt allemaal voor zich. Daarnaast is het laden van platen verbeterd en gaat het schoonmaken van de plaatbelichter aanzienlijk sneller’. Lex Peeters vervolgt: ‘Als offsetplaten gebruiken we hier Kodak Electra XD, omdat deze bijzonder slijtvast zijn en dat luistert bij het drukken van kranten heel nauw. De combinatie Kodak platen, plaatbelichter én workflow kan natuurlijk niet beter, dat weten wij. Dat maakte de keuze voor een nieuwe Kodak Q800 Trendsetter plaatbelichter voor ons gemakkelijk’.
