Kickstarter hits the $100 million mark for publishing projects

05 sep 2016
Categorie: ,

Kickstarter PublishingCrowdfunding platform Kickstarter has collected more than $100 million for publishing projects since its launch in 2009. These projects are anything from comics to serious novels and from journalism to podcasts. Not just writers use Kickstarter to get their projects on to market, also publishers and print companies do so.
Kickstarter has been used for new publications, but also reprints. A few of the top projects are The Lost Poems of Pablo Neruda which collected a whopping 103,000US$ and Black, a graphic novel about a world in which only African-Americans have superpowers.
The success rate for publishing projects lies around 30%, but it is well worth a try if all other options are unsuccessful. Kickstarter has the added bonus that, if your project is successful you immediately have a minimum number of prints and you start with a dedicated number of fans. These fans can help you get more readers with their social media network.

Categorie: ,

AIR ink ink out of smogYou won´t be able to print with it, but Air-Ink, ink made out of the soot particles in smog, clearly shows one of the biggest environmental problems of our time. Because, if it is possible to produce ink from a couple of hours of collecting diesel exhaust you get a good indication of what all of us are inhaling every day.
This was Tiger´s intention. Tiger is one of the biggest beer manufacturers of Asia. Air-Ink brings smog back to the streets through graffiti artists. They use the ink in spray cans and markers to make street art which draws attention to the smog problem. The Air-Ink video on our videos page tells you all about the ink and about the seriousness of this problem.

Clever beer mat

02 sep 2016

BB160829 refilletjeBelgium beer manufacturer Jupiler, together with advertising agency TCC from Breda, the Netherlands, designed a refreshing smart solution: the Refilltje (Refiller, a word play on the word viltje which is Dutch/Belgian for beer mat). The Refilltje is a normal beer mat with a small ridge which fits over the beer glass. If your glass is empty you can slide the mat on the glass so that the waiter can see you are ready for a refill. This will eliminate the wait. The cleverest ideas fit onto a beer mat (English expression: back of an envelope). In this case the mat itself is the clever idea.

The first 400,000 Refilltjes have been delivered to Jupiler pubs in Brabant (the Netherlands and Belgium). A total of 2 million Refilltjes will be made and distributed nationwide.

RISO Showcasing All-New Product Lines, Concept Devices at Graph Expo in September

BURLINGTON, Mass. — August 29, 2016 — RISO Inc., long recognized as a world leader in digital duplicators and innovator of inkjet printing technology, will be showcasing all-new product lines at this September’s Graph Expo in Orlando, Fla., Sept. 25-28. In addition to a new line of business inkjet printers and a freshly launched digital duplicator line, the company will also be showcasing a number of concept printers intended for the high-volume production market.

The ComColor FW series, launched in the North American market June 15, provides office environments with high speed, full color variable data printing at 120 ppm, as well as improved scanning, copying and networking capabilities — all in a smaller footprint than previous models. Designed as a business inkjet machine, the ComColor FW series delivers high productivity, energy efficiency and reliability.

RISO’s SF series of digital duplicators, scheduled to launch Sept. 1, incorporates several new improvements, delivering the crisper quality of a true 600×600 dpi, higher speeds than previous models — up to 150 sheets/min. — and an overall easier operation.

RISO will be displaying a number of prototype printing systems, such as the T1 and T2 concept machines which debuted at drupa in Germany earlier this year. The RISO T1 is a compact, full color printer which uses continuous roll-paper instead of cut sheet paper, enabling printers to use the post-processing devices that they already own while incorporating the cost-effectiveness of RISO printing. The RISO T2 system offers a significant improvement in efficiency for duplex printing, reaching speeds of 300 duplexed prints/min.
