Axel Springer starts own online kiosk
German publisher Axel Springer invested 3 million last year into Blendle, together with the New York Times. This year they are putting their money into their own online iKiosk which will compete with the recently opened German Blendle. Reading your newspapers and magazines when and where you want on whichever device you choose. The new freedom of the press as it´s called by Springer. Not that new though. The service has existed since 2011 and has recently been updated. A big marketing campaign has been started as well. 130 publishers cooperate through this platform which has around 500 titles which can be read as ePaper. These can be bought as single issues or as subscriptions.
The fact that this platform has been given new life might have to do with the international growth of Blendle. Germany was the second country where the kiosk opened.
