The Dutch cherish their local papers
Nearly 90% of Dutch people read their local door-to-door newspaper. These papers are free for everyone and distributed through the letterbox. Especially older citizens who live in more rural areas think it important. Also people in the lower classes read their local newspapers as it is the most important source of local news for them.
These were the results of research by NOM (National Media Research) from 2016 among 30,000 people. The research looked at 336 door-to-door papers and who reads them. Of people between 13 and 19 30% reads these types of newspapers. This is more than 80% for people of 65 and older, they read all of the door-to-door newspapers they receive.
