Germany web offset printers doing well
The large German rotation offset printers are doing really well without any surplus. The European Web Association (EWA) who have many German rotation printers as its members, announced that EWA members saw their printing volumes rise by 2.8% in 2014 compared to 2013, primarily because of commercial printing.
Apparently the print houses were fully manned (5 days a week, 3 shifts a day). This can be concluded from 33 EWA members, who represent 67 companies with a total turnover of 4 billion euro and 80% of total production in German speaking countries.
The printing volume (advertisements, newspapers and catalogues) grew by 25% between 2008 and 2014 amongst these members, to 65,1 billion 16 page prints. Paper volume rose by 20% in the same period to 2,211 million tonnes.
