MWC Barcelona: the promise of rapid 5G, a tsunami of smart watches and plus format smartphone as the new e-reader

Not product announcements such as the Samsung S6 were big news at the Mobile World Conference, nor the tsunami of smartwatches and the plus format smartphones which make e-readers old-fashioned. It was the promise of 5G everywhere. A promise which will not be reality until 2020, but which already made top executives of Huawei and Korea Telecom very enthusiastic. With 5G the Internet of Things, everything connected to everything, will become very manufacturer´s dream. With a reaction time of only 1 millisecond and a transfer speed of at least 5GB per second any content and any data can be shared with anyone. Which in turn results in sales possibilities of which the electronic giant could only have dreamed of and which they need to become profitable. For us as consumer and for the communication industry 5G and the IoT will effect significant changes in our information and communication supply. From reading and watching movies on any device to the remote management of inkjet production printers will all become an every day occurance according to experts. Wether we want a fridge which does its own online shopping or a car without a steering wheel crossing crossroads without lights is anyone´s guess. But it is great to watch videos about them.
