In the Russian village Ivanteyevka close to Moscow a small mistake was made on the billboards placed in honour of the victory over Nazi Germany in WWII. The picture on the billboards features German Luftwaffe pilots instead Red Army (VVS) pilots.
The billboards were placed for the commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the Nazi capitulation on 9 May. The locals soon saw that the pilots in the picture were wearing the wrong uniform. Apart from that the text “They fought for their Motherland” was rather unfortunate in combination with the photo. The photo itself dates from 1940 the year before the Nazi regime declared war on the Soviet Union.
A local news portal which had commissioned the 20 billboards confessed to the mistake. Also the Mayor apologised for the “mistake” and said that the person responsible will be punished. The billboards have been removed in the meantime.
