YouTube supports Virtual Reality
Virtual reality videos are now also available on YouTube. It was possible to see 360 degree films, but in the new VR videos a perspective is created by showing different images for the right and left eye.
The new videos differ from the traditional 360 degree films because of the way they are produced. A specific camera angle is needed, such as Google´s own Jump rig which consists of 16 GoPros. The images are then processed to become stereoscopic virtual reality images. In stereoscopy either eye sees a different image which results in a perspective.
To view VR videos Cardboard or other VR glasses need to be used. YouTube has a playlist with examples of this new technology. Google also announced that it is possible to view all videos on YouTube with Cardboard glasses. Users can click on the Cardboard icon in the YouTube menue.
